Cursor acknowledged that Composer 2, its new coding model, was built on top of Kimi, a model developed by Chinese AI company Moonshot AI, TechCrunch reported. The disclosure raised questions about the use of Chinese AI infrastructure in US developer tools. Cursor had initially marketed Composer 2 without disclosing the underlying model provider. Moonshot AI is backed by Alibaba and has been building competitive large language models focused on long-context processing and code generation.
