OpenAI announces Codex Micro, its first branded hardware product, a developer macro pad co-built with Work Louder, launching July 15

OpenAI showed its first branded hardware on June 29 at the AI Engineer World's Fair in San Francisco: a compact macro pad called the Codex Micro, built with keyboard maker Work Louder, TechTimes reported. The device is set for a full launch with pricing and specifications on July 15, 2026. A teaser posted to X by the OpenAI Developers account on June 29 carried the caption: "Your favorite Codex shortcuts are getting an upgrade." It accumulated nearly one million views within 24 hours, according to TechTimes. OpenAI spokesperson Dominik Kundel described the Codex Micro at the event as a keyboard designed to supercharge people's Codex usage, the report said. No other official details about functionality were provided. The Codex Micro's silhouette matches Work Louder's Creator Micro 2, a macro pad with a CNC-machined aluminum frame and polycarbonate shell. It includes 13 low-profile mechanical MX-style switches, a rotary encoder, a capacitive touch sensor for up to six programmable layers, and a 2D analog joystick, TechTimes reported. The Base model connects via USB-C. A Pro model adds Bluetooth Low Energy with a 2,100 mAh battery. The device works across Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, and Linux. The Codex Micro's price has not been confirmed. The Creator Micro 2 Base model starts at $144 and the Pro model at $174, TechTimes noted.
